NEHTA Clinical Lead Dr Mukesh Haikerwal has said there is much work to be done in order for healthcare professionals to be on board with the personally controlled electronic healthcare record (PCEHR). Australia’s fastest skier, the paralympian Michael Milton, closed yesterday’s Health-e-Nation Conference on the Gold Coast with an inspirational message about breaking down barriers and challenging the status quo. Mr Milton, who lost a leg to cancer at age 9, and subsequently battled esophogeal cancer in his 30s, said disability had given him the perspective to approach challenges not in terms of what he couldn’t do, but what he could do, and how he could conquer the impediments thrown in his way. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has welcomed the availability of MBS item numbers for doctors involved in setting up the personally controlled electronic healthcare record  (PCEHR) for patients. As revealed today by eHealthspace.org, doctors will be able to claim Medicare items B through D depending on the time it takes for them to set up a shared care record.
