Over $20 million has been earmarked for nine telehealth pilot projects to be delivered via the NBN, Senator Stephen Conroy announced today in a joint statement with the Minister for Ageing, Mark Butler. Projects funded under the NBN-Enabled Telehealth Pilots Program will reach an estimated 2500 patients in 50 NBN-connected communities and will be delivered through partner organisations in the healthcare and research sectors. Around 1,100 people from all over Australia were at last week’s National Rural Health Conference in Adelaide, many of them consumer health advocates, says Penny Hanley, who is the communications manager at the National Rural Health Alliance. Today in Singapore, executives from the RDNS (Royal District Nursing Service) accepted the "Outstanding ICT Innovation" award in front of 300 international delegates to the 4th Ageing Asia Investment Forum. The award recognised the RDNS telehealth project, which allows a community nurse to make a ‘virtual visit’ to a patient at home via a video hookup to supervise medication, check some vital signs such as blood pressure and do a visual health check. Telehealth leaders Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) is planning a real-time video consultation between a volunteer in Singapore and a senior Australian nurse next Tuesday to demonstrate its ‘Happy Healthy Home’ project. RDNS is a finalist in the ‘Outstanding ICT Innovation’ award category at the 1st Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards 2013for its broadband telehealth project. US - Like Australia, USA policymakers are hungry for health care data to help inform their decisions. What types of data are they interested in, and how would they make it available?
